Doctor,
I work in a Hospital and I have been putting up with being treated pretty poorly. I am a Help desk Analyst/Audit Controller/Trainer. I have had co workers swear at me. Other employees talking about me as if I'm not even there. I get yelled at by co-workers all the time especially if they are in a bad mood.
This has been going on for 7 years and I have repeatedly reported this to my boss and nothing has been done about it. This treatment does affect my work and I am afraid it will affect my job to the point where I get fired.
What can I do?
Dear Sworn At:
Have you asked for a job transfer? Is that a possibility? Have you reflected upon what causes your co-workers to behave this way toward you? Have you asked any of them to talk with you about what it is that annoys them about you? Have you and your boss talked about the climate in your workplace? Have you as a work group met off-site to examine how you might work together as a team? Have you met with co-workers to learn what it is they need and want from you and what you need from them to do your job?
These are questions that require initiative on your part--your boss won't answer them for you. Sometimes the only solution is to get a new start elsewhere. If you have been with your organization for seven years, you must have been doing some things right. So if your present work slot is a place where for some reason you don't fit, the administration should help you find another slot where your job performance will benefit the hospital. After all a hospital should be a place that diagnoses and prescribes medicine for people problems, whether physical or emotional.
WEGO wherever we work takes persistence!!! Please let me know what happens next.
